First Adoration

Postby mj13 » 30 Jul 2010 8:13 pm

Went to Adoration for the first time this afternoon. Spent about 45 minutes there. Amazing how peaceful and comforting. I sat in pew and reflected and prayed. Want to go back. I got some unexpected good news today about something I had been praying about and stressing over for several months and felt the desire/need to go to the church to give thanks. I know one can pray anywhere anytime but I wanted to make the effort to go "to the house of God". Strange happenings for a CoC gal. :signofcross:

Earlier in week when mom and I were out running errands I asked if she would like to go to see the Catholic church and to my surprise she did. For a while we were the only ones in there. We were able to sit and take in the stained glass, stations of the cross, etc. She remarked on how beautiful it was and how peaceful. She was interested to see where it was I had been going on Saturday evenings and the things I had been describing to her. To those who are raised Catholic or have some connection to Catholicism this probably all sounds silly but it really is a foriegn experience for those of us that basically come from CoC or Baptist type background. Its a lot to take in.

Both of those things are awesome. Sounds like God is really working in your life. Did you go to Eucharistic adoration or did you visit the blessed sacrament in the tabernacle? Both are amazing. But I was going to say if you havnt go check it out at a formal adoration where Christ is displayed in the monstrance.

This is awesome! Agree with Joseph - if this wasn't adoration with the host exposed in the monstrance, find one and go to it. It's absolutely amazing what a spiritual respite it is!

edited to add: Which isn't to say that visiting Him in the tabernacle isn't good - it's wonderful, too. I wish more churches would stay open so you could just drop in whenever.

Wonderful news on both accounts! And yes, I totally understand being inspired by such a simple thing as a beautifully decorated church, when you've grown up with white walls at church it is really a big difference!

Now come on Stephanie, surely at one point you went to a CoC with one of those river scenes painted behind the baptismal

What memories...the church I went to as a little girl had the river scene behind the baptismal. I think it was suppose to be of the Jordan river?? Hadn't thought of that in 40 years!!! And for those of you who asked..I went to adoration with host in monstrance but when mom went with me to see the church the host was in the tabernacle. Have to go to Memphis tommorrow but hope to leave in time to go to adoration for about an hour before heading to Memphis.
